Birthday
While standing on a log rearrange yourselves to be in birth
order by month then day. Years are not taken into the equation.
The rules are that you may not speak or touch the ground.
Cable Walk
A team of two walks along their own cables using Spotters.
The spotters are there to help support the team in case they
begin to fall. The team may help hold each other up and keep
balance but may not touch the ground. If they touch the ground
then they must start over. The further you get on the cables the
farther apart the two people become. None of the teams managed
to make it all of the way down the cables but Rolland and Bill
got the farthest.
Willow in the Wind
Staying stiff as a board you fall any direction you want
inside a circle of spotters. The spotters gently push you back.
You can start to float around inside the circle, which makes the
appear of a Willow floating in the wind.
Trust Fall
Once on the platform, tell everyone who you are and why you
are taking this challenge. turn your back to the spotters and
recite your promise. "I promise to keep my feet together, my
body stiff as a board, and my arms crossed." This promise if
followed through is to keep everyone safe. If the Faller doesn't
keep his body stiff and arms in then often times they will fall
through the 'zipper' created by the spotters laying their arms
straight across and flat to catch the faller's body. A bent body
will slice through the zipper and the person could be injured.
The arms must be kept in to resist the urge to catch yourself
when falling. Often when the arms are out people get hit on the
Faller's way down.
The Wall
The object is to get everyone up the wall. Only two people
can stay at the top to help the other members get pulled up.
Once you have gone up you may not help another person up the
wall physically (unless you're on top of the tower). You're job
once you've come back down from the tower is to spot the
remaining members and give verbal encouragement.
Flying Squirrel
Everyone had a chance to be the 'Flying Squirrel' before we
found out that the other group going through COPE wasn't done at
the Confidence Pole yet. Since we had time, everyone that wanted
to went up again. Only this time they had to say what they would
be as they fly through the air. After we ran the squirrel up the
line, we let them back down almost to the ground for Scott to
grab their feet and spin the fast. We then ran the rope back up
the hill sending the squirrel up once again only this time
they're spinning. :)
The Confidence Pole
Climb up a 32-foot pole in a harness and jump for the
trapeze. You're on belay so the only thing you have to worry
about is conquering your fear of Gravity.
KC
Marietta
Rolland the lineman running right up the pole. He did 3 pull
ups on the trapeze the first time and then a little more than 2
1/2 the second time.
Kayla then Grace attempting this challenge. Grace went up
several times.
Directors
Here are our Directors for Cope. They were excellent
instructors.
Thank you for volunteering your time.
